7 Self-Care Activities for Mummies to Indulge in this Mother’s Day

Being a Mother is a 24/7 job.

While the joys of motherhood can’t be quantified in salaries and bonuses, mummies still deserve some ‘annual leave’ once in a while – To recharge and show some love to yourself, so that you can continue providing care to your loved ones without burning out.

This Mother’s Day, indulge yourself in these self-care activities:

  1. Pamper Yourself at a Spa Retreat
  2. Practice Mindfulness and Meditation
  3. Treat Yourself to Your Favourite Food
  4. Take a Nap
  5. Go on a Shopping Spree
  6. Reconnect with Friends
  7. Start a Crafts Project

  1. Pamper Yourself at a Spa Retreat

After months of carrying a watermelon around in your belly and subsequently cradling your bundle of joy every day, it’s time to give those aching muscles of yours a well-deserved break. Apart from a full-body massage to rejuvenate your strength, your spa day can also include a facial, doing your hair, nails, and even a foot scrub. Who says mummies can’t be well-groomed and looking their best every day?

  1. Practice Mindfulness and Meditation

In addition to reducing stress and boosting your well-being, meditation can also teach you patience and tolerance when navigating the trials and tribulations of parenthood in the years to come. Light some candles. Set a warm bath. Download the Headspace app. Leave the baby duties to daddy for the day. Relax into tranquility and deep breathing, as you restore your inner calm and balance.

  1. Treat Yourself to Good Food

That decadent slice of chocolate cake. That heavenly scoop of hazelnut ice cream. It’s undeniable that good food puts one in a good mood. While you may feel pressured to lose baby weight post-pregnancy, everything in moderation keeps both the body and soul happy.

  1. Take a Nap

Sleep deprivation is no stranger to any new mummy. Just as a sleepy baby makes a cranky baby, the same applies to mummies. Take this Mother’s Day as a free pass to catch up on all that sleep debt you’ve been raking up the past few months. Your family will thank you for it too, when they see how much happier and energetic mummy becomes after a nice long nap.

  1. Go on a Shopping Spree

There are few things a little retail therapy can’t fix. We’re not talking about shopping for more baby items – go out there and buy something for yourself! Splurge on that pretty new dress from your favourite label. Get that flattering pair of jeans you’ve been eyeingOf course, it’s always a bonus to snag a cute mummy-baby matching outfit, so both you and baby can look great together in your OOTDs.

  1. Reconnect with Friends

Having a baby can cause many mummies to feel a sense of isolation. This loneliness stems from many factors, from having less time and energy to spend on social activities, to feeling guilty for not spending time with baby. On Mother’s Day, give yourself one guilt-free day to reconnect with old friends, especially if your friends are mummies feeling the same isolation too.

  1. Start a Crafts Project

Arts and Crafts isn’t just for your kids. Creating your own craft project from start to end can be surprisingly therapeutic. Unleash your creativity by colouring some printables, sign up for a ceramic workshop, or even try your hand at the art of Ikebana (flower arrangement). You’ll light up the house with your newfound sense of rejuvenation, as well as a with a pretty new décor for the coffee table.
